The Coma Galaxy Cluster - Abell 1656

The Coma Galaxy Cluster

Abell 1656

Coma Berenices

09/05/24

I went camping last week as a guest of the Orpington Astronomical Society at their Deep Sky Camp in darkest East Sussex. Here's the Coma Cluster, Abell 1656, in Coma Berenices, captured over two nights. I captured almost 5 hours of data over the two nights but by the time I had blinked out all the subs with satellite trails the total integration was down to 3.5 hours. There's over a 1000 galaxies in the Coma Cluster. That's trillions upon trillions of stars. Makes you go wow!

Galaxy Cluster

I captured almost 6 hours of LRGB but blinked it down to 2 hours 36 minutes by the time I got rid of the clouds, the condensation and the satellites.

It was a bit of a practice run. In May I'm going camping for a couple of nights in the middle of nowhere, central East Sussex, as a guest of the Orpington Astronomical Society. I've got the Coma Cluster on my list of potential targets.

Pickering's Triangle

Supernova Remanent

Cygnus

13/09/23

This is Pickering's Triangle part of the Veil Supernova remanent in Cygnus. I've named the files NGC6979, this is close by but is incorrect! This part of the remanent never made it into any of the main catalogues. Captured over three nights 09, 11 and 13 September, each night from astronomical dusk until the humidity topped 95%. L x 29, R x 12, G x 13, B x 13 at 5 minutes each. 5.5 hours integration, my longest ever! Captured with NINA/PHD2. Processed in Pixinsight.

The image won the TSS APOD award for 17/09/23

The Pacman Nebula

NGC 281 - Nebulosity

Open Star Cluster with Nebulosity

Cassiopeia

6x3minL, 3X3minR, 3X3minG, 3X3minB at -10°C.

This is, IC1590, the open star cluster at the heart of the Pacman Nebula NGC281.

This nebula was one of the targets in the TSS Monthly Challenge.

The Heart of the Heart Nebula

IC1805

Collinder 26

Open Star Cluster with Nebulosity

Cassiopeia

20/08/23

24 x 180 second LRGBs at 0°C, 4.8 hours. Captured 20/08/23 using NINA.

This is, IC1805, the open star cluster at the heart of the Heart Nebula.

The seeing was terrible hence the noise and the temperature was high when I started hence the 0°C sensor setting. The guiding started out hovering about the 2.0" mark then settled to 1.0". After about 3.5 hours I had an RMS below 1.0" and it stayed that way for the rest of the session!

Had to crop out the shadow of the OAG. And missed the target! IC1871 is at the bottom of the image.

IC 434 is the HII region behind the Horsehead. Could have captured more data but it was a school night. Looks like the flat frames didn't work.
